What Causes Pain In Neck Radiating To Chest And Upper Back?

Hi, I have had some strange pains over the last year. It woke me up from a dead sleep a couple of time. It started out very sporadic but now it is happening once or twice a week. The pain starts out in the front of my neck (by my thyroid which half was taken out about 5 yrs ago). Then a very sharp pain moves around my chest and upper back. This happens on and off for about 20-30 minutes. I usually take some ibuprofen and it slowly goes away. Any suggestions?

Hi,

First you need to do an ECHO for the heart and stress ECG to exclude any organic heart disease, then you can do thyroid ultrasound to be sure that there is nothing wrong with it.
