What Causes Pain In Pelvis And Heavy Vaginal Bleeding?

My friend 45 year old female, is having SEVERE pelvic pain that seems to center mainly in the area of her uterus, vagina, and ovaries. Heavy vaginal bleeding, passing large, black colored clots that in her words, smell like rotting flesh. No fever. Do I need to get her to an ER, or can this wait?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

I will suggest you get her to an emergency if bleeding is too heavy. The causes are inflammatory disease, missed abortion, fibroids, incomplete abortion, or coagulopathy.

She will be evaluated for cause simultaneously. Bad smell means an anaerobic infection and she will definitely need some antibiotics including metronidazole.

She may need to be transfused and will definitely get immediate pain relief too.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
