What Causes Pain In Ribs And Back On The Right Side After An Injury?

My son is 15 years old. He is a brown belt in karate and plays a lot of golf. About 6 months ago he was climbing up a ladder and about fell and caught himself. After that he complained of right sided pain in his rib area radiating down his back. Last week he was lifting himself up and down off a stage on the same side of his body. this week he is having more pain in the same spot on his right side. We have used a heating pad and Motrin. Last night he showed me his chest area and from behind it looks as though one of his shoulder blades is about an inch further away from his spine than the other. His right shoulder also droops about an inch lower than his left from the front view. Not sure if this could be a cracked rib or a muscle tear. Would you suggest taking him to a PT or ane MD or a chiropractor? Thanks.

Hello,

As the intensity of pain is severe with dropping of shoulder, there can be possible injury to rotator cuff, ligament, muscle with or without involvement of underlying nerve structures. I do not consider this case to be curable by chiropractor, and a strong recommendation to consult an expert orthopedic specialist is recommended.
