What Causes Pain In Right Elbow After Playing Sports?

My 13 yr old son is experiencing pain in right arm above elbow during or after sports activities requiring him to throw a baseball, football, etc. Dr. seen and suggested growing pains but everything i have read suggests growing pains in arms are rare and it should be both arms not just one. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi..
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

If I would be your treating physician,I would have provisionally diagnosed this condition as Tennis elbow ( Lateral epicondylitis) in which outer part of elbow become tender and sore due to repetitive use of extensor tendons. As your son is sports person so there could be repetitive movements of elbow during playing. Please check whether he has tenderness (pain on palpation) on affected area.

I would suggest you get X-ray AP and lateral view of Elbow joint and get MRI done. I would further suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon and get treatment for that.

I hope this has answered your question.Even if you have any questions, feel free to ask me anytime

Regards

Dr.Hamid
