What Causes Pain In Right Knee Radiating Towards Hip?

I have had p ain in my right knee under the knee cop for aprox. 3 weeks. That area stopped hurting for a few weeks and during that time I began to hurt in my right hip which has radiated down the top of my right knee, from my hip . I am a 69 year old female with other serious illnesses and take medication for a-fib, high blood pressure, copd, high colestroland trygl , low b12/folic, and d3, I also have vertigo and migraines(without the headaches) . Can you determine what is going wrong with my right knee and hip?

Hello,

Pain in the right hip and knee may be due to the following conditions:
1) Sciatic nerve compression
2) Lumbar spondylitis leading to nerve impingement
3) Osteoarthritis of hip and knee joints
4) Reactive arthritis

Your knee and hip joint are to be examined in person by an orthopedic doctor. So please do consult an orthopedic doctor. Until then, your pain can be managed by the following:
1) NSAIDs like ibuprofen or Naproxen to be taken twice daily for 1 week
2) Tab. Pantop 40mg helps in preventing gastric irritation
3) Opioid can be used in the place of NSAIDs
4) Physical therapy would help strengthen the muscles and decreases pain

Please do consult an orthopedic doctor if your pain doesn't subside with above mentioned treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
