What Causes Pain In Right Middle Finger Radiating Toward The Groin?

Friend is a double lung transplant patient. Pain started in her right middle finger. In a period of two days, the pain has moved up her right arm and her right groin. Today it is in her left groin area. She went to her lung dr. He said it doesn t have any thing to do with her lungs or her heart. He sent her to her transplant dr . He also said it did not have anything to do with her lungs nor her heart. He told her to go to her primary g.p. Any thoughts as to what this could be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since your friend is having pain in the middle finger and experiences pain also in the groin, it can be due to tendonitis, RA, OA, carpal tunnel syndrome, neurological disorder, etc. She is suggested to remove any finger rings to prevent swelling, give rest to the finger in case of any injury. She can apply ice to the finger for relief.

She is suggested to get clinically examined by a gynecologist, if sexually active, get STD tests done to stay on the safer side. Get nerve conduction velocity tests, nerve biopsy, blood tests, urinalysis and imaging tests done to detect the pathology. You will be treated accordingly. In the meantime, take food rich in vitamin B6, B12, E, folic acid and minerals. You can also take supplements.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
