What Causes Pain In Sternum Area Radiating To Stomach During Pregnancy?
I am 8 weeks pregnant and have been in bed for the past 7 days with pain in my sternum area, this pain usually get worse after I have eaten. last night I had to visit emergency as the pain was through the roof. one of the doctor examined me and said I may have gallstones, however, I have just got back from having a altra sound and no gallstones found. the pain today,( which is now day 8) seems to have moved into my stomach as well. any ideas sarh

The most likely explanation is related to reflux of stomach acid into the esophagus. This is called acid reflux, or GERD. This is extremely common in pregnancy and is related to hormones that relax the smooth muscle sphincters that prevent this backflow. I would have you consider an antacid medication and if I am right, these symptoms will improve dramatically We consider them safe during pregnancy, but make sure that you check with your OB Provider as well and make sure that they are comfortable as well.
