Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In Stomach, Pelvic Area And Vaginal Discharge While On Cefixime?
The drug Cefixime 400mg was prescribed by a doctor to treat a bacterial infection my girlfriend complained about. She experienced unusual discharge, pain in the stomach or pelvic area..... a few of the discomfort she has had over the last three weeks. Could this by any chance be that she had contacted a venereal disease like gonohreah ?
We will try to help you in the best way possible. First of all, it's sad to know what your friend had been going through lately.
Based on the history you have shared, she needs a gynecologist review and ultrasound pelvis as well as high vaginal swab cultures to rule out any possibilities of pelvic inflammatory disease or infection-related symptoms. May need fungal infection tests too as well as for microscopy of urethral discharge.
Possibility of gonorrhoeal infection or STD screen may also be needed but all of the workups will be based on findings of clinical examination by the gynecologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
