What Causes Pain In Testicles That Is Not Responding To Painkillers?

My son has had very painful bouts of searing pain in left testicle and sometimes moves to his right. He has been to the doctor and urologist a number of times and they have given him several types of antibiotics with no relief. He takes strong pain relievers more often and it is not looking good. He has been 7 months with this and wants some relief. Who should we try to get an appointment with now?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi ! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

If I were your son's doctor, with such a long duration of gradual worsening pain, I would advise your son for a Doppler ultrasound of both the testes to rule out a chronic torsion of the testis. Once it is ruled out, then I would advise him for a good scrotal support, some anti inflammatory and a broad spectrum antibiotic. I would also advise him for a urine routine/microscopic and culture sensitivity test to rule out a urinary infection which could also be the cause of such recurrent pain in the testicles. I would also advise him to avoid prolonged standing and heavy work till he is relieved completely of the problem.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your son's problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
