What Causes Pain In The Abdomen While On Metformin?

I am having severe to moderate gastro pain. I have just had an MRI of the small intestine and the test to check my gall bladder and they both came out fime. I noticed that the 5 days that I did not take the Metformin for the test that I had no gut pain but as soon as I took the first dose last night I almost immediately had pain.
Can the Metformin be causing this?

1. As Metformin use is associated with abdominal discomfort but with ongoing duration of treatment the body gradually adapts itself and the side effects may go away so your attending physician will let you know about measures to reduce/prevent some of the side effects.

2. One should be more concerned with other side effects associated with Metformin like Lactic Acidosis,Vitamin B12 deficiency,diarrrhea, Hypoglycemia,hepatitis. [one should regularly check with liver function test, blood sugar and Vitamin B12 level.
