What Causes Pain In The Ankle After A Hit?

I tripped and hit my ankle a month ago. It had a huge bruise in the area where the ankle meets the shin and down to the foot. There is still an obvious lump. It aches all the time and is sore after standing for long period of time. Is it still healing and that's why I have pain?
