What Causes Pain In The Arch Of The Foot?

Hi. I have this aching in the arch of my foot. I swim and do synchronized swimming. I am really physically active. The pain has been bothering me for a while now. I have a golf ball which I roll my foot on and have my family massage it. I stretch my calves everyday. But recently, when I flex my foot I feel the muscle stretching and snapping, kind of like a rubber band. It is not all the time but it is uncomfortable. Why is this happening and what should I do?
