What Causes Pain In The Arm After Taking Ciprofloxacin?

i have some pain/tenderness in my left arm ( below shoulder) - I had a prostate biopsy 2 days before. I have also had 3 days of ciprofloxacin a 2 tabs x 500 mg/day - could this be a side effect of ciprofloxacin or may be my left arm was twisted during the procedure under sedation. My email is YYYY@YYYY . is it a cause for concern?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.
It seems to be due to a side effect of Ciprofloxacin.

Ciprofloxacin is a Fluoroquinolone antibiotic commonly prescribed to treat susceptible bacteria like those causing urinary tract infection.

Based on the history you seem to have developed tendonitis (swelling of a fibrous tissue that connects a bone to a muscle) or a tendon rupture (tearing of a fibrous tissue that connects a bone to a muscle) during your treatment with Ciprofloxacin.

These are the important side effects of Fluoroquinolone antibiotics like Ciprofloxacin.

You need to take rest and decrease the physical load on the left arm. A physiotherapy is highly recommended.

You may recover within 30 days or may be six weeks to two months.
Avoid taking Fluoroquinolone in future.

Hope these answer your queries.
