What Causes Pain In The Buttocks After Sitting For Long?
When I drive or sit in a movie for a while I get a pain going down my buttock, leg to my foot. I have degenerative disc issues and osteoarthritis would an over the counter tens unit help? I do exercise 5 days a week, do the back and ab exercises I learned at therapy in addition daily and lost 50 lbs but still problem on long drives. No pain when I walk or jog.
Pain that spreads in the buttock to the leg and foot is called sciatica pain and is due to nerve pinch that happens due to possibly a problem in the back, disc problems or bone overgrowth that happens with ostheoarthritis (ostheophytes) as it might be the problem in your case.
Exercises and being active are good but sometimes they might hurt the back more and you need specific exercises from a physiotherapist to help release the pressure from the nerve and relieve the pain.
So it is advisable that you see a physiotherapist to give you the proper exercises to help with it and to let you know which movements you need to avoid to prevent the pain from getting worse.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
