What Causes Pain In The Buttocks?

I have an ache in both buttocks, staying with me for two weeks now. It started not from any exercise or unusual activities. It even hurts, though less, when I am sitting down. I am 83 years old and am taking a lot of potassium, 80 mgs per day, and Furosemide, 120 mgs per day, and 400 mgs of calcium per day. This is not a cramp, and it does not extend down my legs. I am wondering about Magnesium, perhaps a deficiency I have had a blood test (OK) and a pelvic X-Ray (normal).

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

With such presentations in my clinic, I would first rule out (pudendal neuropathy) and if confirmed clinically I may advise you little lifestyle change like as below:
a) Avoid prolonged sitting and forceful bending
b) Avoid constipation and as per your doctors advise you can take any laxative of your choice
c) Try to avoid certain exercises like (squatting, cycling, piriformis stretches, gym workouts, stair master, ellipse, exercise cycle, lifting, bowling, ab crunches, leg presses, pilates, step aerobics, yoga, skiing, sit-ups, jogging and spinning)

You may be advised to a physiotherapist who will assist you to eradicate your pain by physical exercises. For prescription medications ask your doctor who will prescribe it for you because all medication for pain requires a doctor's prescription. So nothing to be worried at all.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
