What Causes Pain In The Calf Muscle Post A Toe Injury?

Hi, I broke the bone at the end of my little toe about 2 weeks ago. I'm currently in a removable boot type cast and walking on crutches. My question is, is it normal to have pain on the calf muscle? My foot doesn't hurt at all, just the muscle at the back of my leg below the knee.
