Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have calf pain in both legs located at the outside middle area. It worsens at night when I am trying to sleep. This has been going on for about five years . I am a type II diabetic , however I believe it is unrelated to the diabetic condition. It started after bicycling . My calf s blew up like balloons and have been in pain ever since. I have seen several doctors , MRI s , physical therapy , nothing showing on the MRI S , and PT makes it worse. Please help Bruce
First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.
Based on the history you have shared, it seems to be nerve related pain and isolated nerve involvement especially lateral cutaneous nerve of the leg may cause such sensory symptoms and are a type of diabetic neuropathy.
Mononeuritis multiplex can also be causative but possibility of restless legs syndrome needs to be ruled out. Nerve conduction studies may also be needed.
Meanwhile using Gabapentin or nerve pain suppressants like duloxetine can be helpful. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
