What Causes Pain In The Chest While Breathing?

I just returned from a camping trip. I live at sea level, camped at 7,000 feet, and hiked at almost 11,000 feet. I ve never experienced altitude sickness. Twelve hours after returning home, I woke up with pain in my chest when I breathed. The pain is concentrated around my sternum, and feels like a bruise. It begins when my lungs are halfway full, and worsens. On a scale of 1 to 10, the pain is about 3 or 4, but worsens when I lay down or bend over. I did not experience any discomfort while camping, and did not drink any unfiltered water. The pain has persisted for about 36 hours without change. Any idea what could be wrong?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It could be contusion or musculoskeletal arising out of a trivia trauma which gets unnoticed.

As of now, you can use analgesics/anti-inflammatory combination like aceclofenac/serratiopeptidase for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
