What Causes Pain In The Chest?

I went to the hospital yesterday around 3;00am because I was getting this pain on my chest, so they checked my heart, took seven vial tubs of blood, took chest exrays and found nothing. Then the Dr. said it might be heartburns! Can you tell me the symtoms? and how this can harm me.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Chest pain can be due to heart attack, angina, gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer, costochondritis, pleural effusion, or pericarditis.
As your doctor has excluded causes in heart and lung, so cause of chest pain can be due to GERD.
In GERD, the contents of the stomach come back into the esophagus. There are several reasons why people have GERD. GERD causes heartburn, a burning feeling in the chest and throat. Heartburn may happen many times a week, especially after eating or at night. GERD can also cause you to cough or have asthma symptoms.
Advice
1.     Omeprazole 20 mg per oral empty stomach in the morning for 10 days
2.     Quit smoking and alcohol
3.     Do not heavily at a time. Divide your meals into smaller portions and eat them frequently during the day
4.     Avoid a particular food if pain occurs particularly after eating that food. Allergy particularly occurs for dairy products
5.     Avoid eating 3 hours before lying down
6.     Raise the head of your bed
7.     Avoid spicy foods, fatty foods, mint, chocolate, tomato-based foods, coffee, and citrus fruits
Thanks
