What Causes Pain In The Ears And Jaws?

My 18 year old son had ear pain starting on Wednesday went to clinic on Saturday diagnosed with swimmers ear started Saturday taking neomycin and polymyxin B sulfates and Hydrocortisone Otic suspension USP drops. He takes 4 drops 3 times a day. He is really complaining about pain in his ear and now his jaw being worse than it was went we went to the clinic? Is this normal?
