What Causes Pain In The Ears, Nose And Jaw Despite Taking Steroid And Flonase For Sinus Infection?

My daughter is 24. She has been fighting what they diagnosed as a sinus infection since before Thanksgiving. She will feel better, then antibiotic runs out and she start to feel awful again. Severe pain in nose, ears and jaw. She called to request a second antibiotic (she had had to do back to back for things in the past) and they put her on a steroid, plus Flosnase. That was last Friday. Pain continues to get worse. They also have referred her to an ENT, but that is 6 weeks away. She has a deviated septum- don t know if that is part of the mix. Please advise.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If she has a deviated nasal septum, and her osteomeatal complex is blocked due to any anatomical defect, she might be suffering from sinusitis. Steroids might help temporarily but she needs to get a CT scan done to find out the status. For sinusitis, get steam inhalation done, it will help her. Avoid banana and grapes causing histamine rise in the body and allergic features. Nasal drops might help if she has obstruction and systemic nasal decongestant also
