Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband is a 50yo, AA male with HTN and Sleep Apnea. He flew to Newark Friday and is supposed to return to ATL tomorrow. He had an ER visit Friday evening with major complaint being severe pain in his right arm (near his elbow), and now has severe dry mouth. His BP was elevated to 200/ something high. They did lab work and said he was fine. He refused a CT Scan because he could not lay on his back at the time. His mom passed away July 12 and she lived with us and we provided care to her. She was on dialysis and had severe HTN as well. Any idea what could cause he elbow pain and constant dry mouth? what tests should he ask for should he returns to the ER? What can he do to help with comfort? Could this be stress related?
The commonest cause of pain in the right arm near the elbow in a 50-year-old male can be as follows: Cervical spondylitis giving referred pain to the arm near elbow. Problem with elbow joint like arthritis, although this is rare. Synovitis of elbow. Minor fracture near elbow caused by muscle pull. Hence CT scan is a must. Aks your husband to go to ER to have CT scan either to see for one of the above reasons or get these ruled out and also get a proper evaluation for raised blood pressure and get additional medications for control of blood pressure as this high blood pressure can cause complications. And also get prescription based painkillers, elbow splint as whatever is required.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
