What Causes Pain In The Gums After A Root Canal Treatment?

I received a root canal last Monday and this coming Friday will finish up the process with a crown. Today is Sunday and my gum are very sore and feels like pressure under the tooth with the recent root canal. I have been self medicating with ibuprofen 800mil morn and night. It is now not working. What can I do to stop the pain?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

The pressure and pain feeling when the root canal treatment is going on is due to infection still lingering below the root tips of the tooth and also if the tooth height is not reduced by trimming the crown of the tooth.
So in this case taking antibiotics alone will not resolve the problem and you need to consult your Dentist and get evaluated..
The dentist can put a medicated coating inside the root canals like calcium hydroxide and also advise you a course of antibiotics for a week and slightly trim the cusp of teeth..
Once the pain and pressure subsides then only you should proceed for the final filling and capping of the tooth..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
