What Causes Pain In The Hand Joints While Sleeping?

Can getting sick (I.e. cold or flu) trigger menopause symptoms? I m a 49 year old woman and I ve been sick twice in the last year, and both times it triggered several months of hot flashes and night sweats, along with aching joints, especially in my hands. The achy joints occur while I m sleeping and go away a little while after I get up in the morning.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be a peripheral vascular disease. As first line management, you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief.

If symptoms persist to consult a general surgeon and plan for a Doppler scan. As you said hormone impairment or perimenopausal changes can also cause similar symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
