What Causes Pain In The Hand?

This morning my middle finger (at the top joint) and to a lesser degree my thumb (on the right hand) were hurting a lot with a throbbing pain. As the day progressed this throbbing has moved up my arm, first with the most pain in my thumb and then now my elbow. The pain still seems to be traveling upwards as I can feel it nearly up to my arm pit. I still have full movement and feeling in my arm, but my hand is a bit cooler than the other and just the slightest bit tingly. The pain level is around a 3-4. I am 31 years old, in good health, not overweight. Any ideas on what this could be?
