What Causes Pain In The Hands And Feet After Chemotherapy?

My husband was diagnosed on 3/30/17 with rectal cancer, had 28 rounds of radiation and 3,000 mg of Xeloda daily. Then first surgery and an illiestomy. Now half way thru 8 rounds of chemo (Xeloda again, same dosage). His hands are practically useless, feet and mouth both hurt. Nasuia for last three days. Vomited last night and running fever. Convinced he has caught something. Could it be the Xeloda? Only had three small servings of yogurt today. Thank you for your time. YYYY@YYYY .

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Xeloda may cause that uncomfortable feeling in hands and foot, its a side effect. Vomiting, nausea, and fever might be from possible infection or flu because your husband has a less protective immune system due to the treatment with those medications. Take a complete blood count to see for any problems. If the vomiting continuous, he might need to go to the emergency room for taking liquids iv.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
