What Causes Pain In The Hands And Fingers While Suffering From Shingles?

My 29 year old daughter was diagnosed with shingles , which started in her left eye and traveled around down her back to her left lower hip. She has been see by several doctors starting with a PCP, referred to an Ophthalmologist. She is taking medication for the shingles and complains of terrible pain in her hands , eyes, fingers , joints, back and has been experiencing 2-3 migraine headaches per week. She was referred to a neurologist. After seeing the Neurologist he wants to increase her Gabapentin meds from 900mgs 3xOD to 1500 3xOD. She also takes 1 gram of Valtrex 3xOD. The Neurologist also wants to have an EEG done. After all this being explained can you tell me if this is the norm for treating a young person such as my daughter of 29yrs. I am concerned, she was diagnosed with these shingles almost 6 months ago.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The issue is due to postherpetic neuralgia.

Apart from analgesic and neuronal ailments as gabapentin, she has to undergo meditations, relaxation techniques, deep breathing exercises to opt for natural healing process fastening with allopathy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel,
