What Causes Pain In The Hip Radiating To The Lower Back?

Good evening, the other evening I bent down to pick something off the floor when I felt/heard a pop . All of a sudden I developed excruciating pain fro my left hip radiating to my lower lumbar/sacral (sort of the left lower flank.) Now I am having a tightness in the left flank/lumbar area. It seams to come from my vertebrae and is tight straight across by left lower lumbar to my left hip which is tender and my obliques on the left side are tender to palpation. I have no idea what I did but, I have discomfort especially when I try to sit in a chair , stretch etc.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your history, it may be due to nerve compression at the lumbar spine level.

For further assessment, I would suggest you do MRI back, nerve conduction studies after spine surgeon consultation.

Till then you can take tablet acetaminophen. Apply diclofenac gel with heating pads. Use support while walking. Avoid forward bending. You may require tablet Pregabalin after consultation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale, General & Family Physician
