What Causes Pain In The Hips After Receiving A Depo Shot?

I just got the depo shot in my hip, butt area today. I have had it three other times now and have been fine the other times and it usually doesn’t hurt when they are injecting the needle. It burned when I got the shot today and ever since then it has hurt in that area. I can hardly move or bend or put pressure on that area without being in tears. Is this normal? I have been taking medicine to help ease the pain, but it isn’t working that well. Is there anything else I can do to help ease the pain.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is normal to feel pain after a depo shot. I suggest you to take antiinflammatory medication like Ibuprofen, 3 times a day. I also suggest cool compresses at the injection side.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
