What Causes Pain In The Index Finger After Injecting An IV?

I have recently visited an ER. I had to get an IV and the nurse had tried to put it on the side of my wrist. With my palm down the left side of my right wrist right above the bone. Im not sure if she hit the nerve, but when she put the needle in a sharp pain shot down to my index finger. Ever since the pain has gotten worse with it getting worse daily. Could the nerve be permanently damaged?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It should not be permanently damaged but you should consider letting the institution know about the pain that you are experiencing so that it can be documented.

This would help if you need to assess treatment.

Rest and anti inflammatory medication may be enough to help the area heal.
Anti inflammatory meds include naproxen or ibuprofen.

I hope this helps
