What Causes Pain In The Jaw?

I have had pain in my jaw, usually associated with chewing, for almost a year. I have been to the dentist, and several other dental type doctors. Xrays show nothing. I have been treated with antibiotics. Nothing stops the situation. The last suggestion was to cut into my jaw to see if the doctor could find an infection that was not showing up. I am not sure where to turn next.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Your problem can be due to disorders with the jaw joint causing TMJ/TMD.
It can cause pain during chewing and and even other movements of the jaw..
So my suggestion is to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and a thorough clinical examination can be done followed by CBCT Scan to rule out the cause and treatment can be done accordingly..
As of now you can take muscle relaxants like Cyclobenzaprine and pain relievers.
Take soft meals and avoid excess mouth opening..
You can also massage the side of jaws with soft rounded motion of the finger tips..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
