What Causes Pain In The Joints?

I have had joint pain for about a year but I have no swelling or stiffness in my joints. I am not ra positive but there was something else indicative of ra in my blood test that I am forgetting the name of. methotrexate is not working but my dr seems unwilling to try a biologic. I am an otherwise health 52 year 110 lb woman. I exercise regularly. any thoughts? I am really so tired of the constant pain. also I feel better in the morning than night? penal

Hi,

Joint pains may have many causes. We first should confirm if this is RA. The pain of RA typically occurs in the morning and is associated with swelling and stiffness in the joints. So first we should confirm if it is RA.

However, if it is RA, the use of a biologic is not needed here. In fact, biological agents have it's its own major side effect and are only needed if two drugs cannot control your disease. This will be decided by your rheumatologist but I don't think you need it. We may add other drugs if your pain is not controlled with methotrexate only.

I would also advise taking some vitamin D and calcium with it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
