What Causes Pain In The Left Buttock And Leg?

I have pain in my left buttock and sometimes down the leg. When I sleep and go to turn over I get a sharp pain in my left groin. I have had a knee injury that has been treated, and now I am told I need a knee replacement. YYYY@YYYY is my email. Thank you.

Hello,

Since you are suffering have suffered from a knee injury, you can experience pain around knee joint.
However, pain in left buttock and groin is unlikely to be associated with a knee injury.
Pain in the buttock going down the leg can be due to nerve compression. The spinal nerve can get compressed and thus cause pain in the area of distribution of the nerve roots.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
