What Causes Pain In The Left Leg?

I am 76 years old and several days ago I woke up with pain in my left leg that radiates from below my knee to almost my ankle. I have a very hard time bending my leg, but, can walk on it with just a little pain. I am very healthy and don t have any major medical issues. I have a very hard time sleeping as the pain is bad when I try to turn over.I do have some difficulty getting up and down a chair. Thank-you so much for your help!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HCM

The most important concern with your symptoms is Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
DVT is the formation of clot in the deep veins of the leg
The important complication of DVT is pulmonary embolism.
Doppler study of leg can confirm the diagnosis. Once confirmed immediate initiation of heparin is required.

Please be advised to follow up with emergency room for appropriate management

Hope this answers your questions
