Hello my name is Robert Summerall, and I have suffering With in my left, shoulder blade the romboid muscle feels like I have been stabbed with a knife, due to 5 vertebra in my neck pushing against my spinal cord, I have shooting, pain down my left arm down to my little finger and it s numb. any answers!
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hello,
Rhomboid muscle is also enervated by roots emerging from C5 spine so the pain you have in the shoulder blade is also due to the same lesion in the spine causing pain down your hand to the little finger. It seems you have acute exacerbation of the symptoms at the moment. You can use hot/cold packs/avoid movements. Give rest to the part. Anti-inflammatory pills like Ibuprofen would help to reduce it.
Once acute pain is over. You can consult a spine surgeon for specific advice (oral anti-inflammatory drugs, local injection at the spinal lesion of steroid/physiotherapy or surgery depending on severity of the pressure).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale
