Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Doctor, When I was round about 13years of age I had an operation(fixation) of the left testicle. This was after I had experienced pain in the left testicle, the family took me to specialist doctor who said this was due to the fact I had big testicles that cause discomfort and at times I usually sit on them or they are squashed between my legs so it caused something to twist inside there such that blood no longer flows to the testicles so they hurt and my lead to a condition that he called tortion if i that operation was done on my left testicle. The operation was done and the pain disappeared for a while now i m 24years of age and I feel pain in the same testicle occasionally, it can go on for like four days and back to normal then it happens again repeatedly, I feel as if the pain gets worse every time it happens. Recently a friend mentioned to me during a conversation that menthol cigarettes can affect your testis if smoked for a while and i smoke heavy as it is already(I have been smoking since 2012 already) so I need to know if this is being caused by cigarettes or it s the previous problem repeating itself. Do I need to see a doctor for this or it will be normal after a while, i m really worried, please help
As you said it is called torsion of testis.
As the doctor who said about it was right that it is due to some problem at the level of your testis. But it is not directly caused by smoking. But smoking causes a lot of other deadly diseases like heart attack and lung cancer to say a few. Smoking weakens your muscles and which may lead to other problem.
Actually the pain is due to the problem which you had previously and due to some small trauma to that testicle. I suggest my patients to consult the same doctor who operated or a surgeon or physician as early as possible, and not to wait for a long time for the pain to decrease by itself.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
