What Causes Pain In The Legs And Arms After Taking Lipitor?

I have been taking Lipitor for approximately 10 years. I am having pain in my muscles, in my legs and arms to some degree. I take CO-Q-10 daily. I read recently that if you experience this issue you should stop taking the Lipitor for a few days to see if the pain goes away. Is there any issue in immediately stopping the use of Lipitor? Thank you.

Hi,

Lipitor is composed of 'Atorvastatin', which is a member of the medication class known as statins, which are used primarily as a lipid-lowering agent.

Experiencing muscle pain and cramps are common side effects while taking this medication.

Since you have been taking it for long duration (about 10 years), it is not necessary to stop and observe as to these side effects will go or not.

Instead, you can take antioxidant Vitamin E and Selenium preparation along with CoQ 10 which you have been taking. This could help to overcome the side effects caused by Lipitor to a certain extent.

Another remedy which can be suggested is to lower the dosage by half (say from 20 to 10 mg) and continue its intake, for which you need to consult Physician for the opinion for appropriate dosage.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
