What Causes Pain In The Lower Abdomen After IUD Insertion?

Mirena IUD inserted April 7th. Last period occurred around end of June and lasted about 7 or 8 days (including brown discharge at the end, which has been the case since insertion). Have been more sexually active recently... during the first and second weeks of July... now I have sharp pains in my lower left abdomen, light pink discharge, as well as some nausea and fatigue. My urine is darker but it doesn t hurt to urinate. Pregnant? Infection?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, you are suffering from pelvic infection and need to get gynecologist opinion. However, meanwhile, you can take over the counter pain killers like paracetamol but get your Mirena checked for position and get blood tests like complete blood count done for infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
