What Causes Pain In The Lower Abdomen On The Left Side?

I have been having some lower left abdominal pain on and off for some time and sometimes this extends into my left leg. Pain has been worse recently so went to see my GP 2nd November. I have previously had an ultrasound scan which showed some small fibroids. I went for another scan 16th November after my GP had done an abdominal examination and said that she was able to feel something. However the lady at the ultrasound 16th November said she could see nothing at all. I went back to my GP same day as I was in a lot of pain and she has given me Cocodamol and signed me off work for two weeks. Symptoms now are lower left abdominal pain, leg pain, very sore breasts even though I am only half way through my cycle, weight gain of about half a stone and now I feel like I am having difficulty swallowing {although I am not sure if this is because I am now extremely anxious}. I am now waiting for a laparoscopy but I am very very scared about my symptoms.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

First of all, I would like to advise you the same thing I do to my patients who become anxious quickly, that do not panic. The symptoms you have mentioned are very common and are seen in a person who is sick due to some small reason.

Its good that you are visiting your doctor regarding this and as per her advice you underwent some tests. There is nothing to worry about undergoing a laparoscopy test as it is done by professionals and it is done commonly these days. It will help to find out the exact reason for your pain and then it will be easy to treat you appropriately and also manage your pain efficiently.

So I would suggest you stay calm, stay positive as, if you are positive regarding your health and recovery then half of the work in the process of getting well is done here only.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar,
