What Causes Pain In The Lower Abdomen On The Left Side?

Hi, I am a 58 yr old female who has not had a hysterectomy and I have been hurting on my left side of my abdomen about 3 inches below my bellybutton and two inches from my left hip. About where I would think my ovary is located. It has been hurting for about 5 days. It is not constant but it does send sharp pains when it strikes. I walk holding my side so it does not move too much. I need to know what this could be.

Hi
Thanks for positng your query on HCM
I have read and understood your concern.
There are many medical conditions that may give you such symptoms.Possible causes may include:
-Pelvic inflammatory disease/STI
-Pelvic masses(ovarian, uterine)
-UTI/ nephritic colic
-ulcerative colitis
-diverticulitis
- And others.
I will advise you see the Doctor for examination and tests.Tests that may help include: abdomino-pelvic ultrasound, urinalysis, stool exam, STI work-ups.If pain intense, an anti-spasmodic pain drug like spasfon may help.
Hope this will help. You may write back if more concerns.
Wish you good health
