Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In The Lower Abdomen While On Amoxicillin?
I was prescribed Amoxicillin 500mg by my dentist, I have been taking them and teeth are not better but now having pain in lower colon on right section where I had colon cancer and they did a resection. The pain is in that area could this be from the medicine?
Explanation: My opinion is that penicillin derived antibiotics like yours as a side effect may cause a condition called pseudomembranous colitis which is simply a bacterial overgrowth in your colon. Not to worry about just adding oral Metronidazole after consulting your doctor is a good cure. The information provided by you is not sufficient to provide a good opinion. If someone comes to me with this condition I would ask them about the character of pain and if other symptoms like blood in stool or dysentery exist. Also, do some lab like CBC, tumor markers would help.
Conclusion: I suggest you check your gastroenterology specialist for your condition.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mahmmad Gamal
