What Causes Pain In The Lower Back And Lower Leg?

I have been experiencing a pain in my lower back: and sometimes get this same sensation in the back of my lower leg. This pain I get feels like I have been bitten. could you possible tell me what could be the cause? your help would be greatly appreciated.
