What Causes Pain In The Lower Back On The Left Side?

I have this pain in my lower back on the left side. I know that I have cysts on my ovaries that aren t that large. I have not sustained an injury, nor are my there any decrease in urination, maybe a slight increase. What can possibly be causing this pain. I ve noticed it for a week now. I am also an obese woman with very huge buttocks, don t know if that has any bearing on anything. Thanks Mary

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain in the lower back commonly occurs due to muscle strain or sprain. Maintain a low BMI for a healthy lifestyle.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP. Get Imaging tests done to rule out spinal cord issues(herniated disc, rupture, degenerative disc disease, arthritis, etc).

Since you are getting pain in the lower left side it could be sciatica (piriformis syndrome) or ankylosing spondylitis.

You can take pain relievers like Ibuprofen or Naproxen. Your treatment will depend upon the pathology detected.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
