What Causes Pain In The Lower Back On The Right Side?

Hello, I am currently experiencing lower back pain on my right side. It comes and goes depending on what I am doing. My daughter is a PA and she has said that I have a good size knot in my lower muscles. Is there any relief or what can I do to relieve the pain. It feels like a knife sticking me there

Hello,
Thank you for your query.

A knot in the muscle is usually due to strain of that muscle and needs to be treated.
I suggest :
- hot pack application to the affected area for 15 minutes. Then apply anti inflammatory gels (dicloran, method salicylic acid) in gentle circular motion over and and around the affected area.
After an hour apply ice pack (wrapped in a thin cloth) over the area for 10 minutes.

Check for allergies by applying the medication on your inner arm (just below the elbow crease), the night before you start using it.

Repeat process thrice a day
-make sure not to overuse that muscle during treatment period.

-massaging with oil can also help but has to be done correctly by a therapist. If not, can worsen the knot.
-anti inflammatory pain medications can help if pain is severe.

These measures should show improvement in a couple of days but can take longer to completely normalize. If it doesn't improve or gets worse,
I recommend :
- a physician consult
-x-rays of the lower spine. MRI if nerve involvement is suspected.
Based on the findings a treatment plan will be made and initiated.

Hope this helps.
Please remember that the longer that the muscle remains knotted/inflamed, the longer it takes to heal.
I urge you to try my suggestions.

Please let me know if there is anything is anything that I can help you with.

Wish you good health
