What Causes Pain In The Lower Back Radiating To The Front Side?

I have been experiencing a lot of pain in my lower left back & side which sometimes radiates to the front left side. However, it seems to be mostly in the lower back and side. It is a constant pain that never goes away even with trying several different pain relievers. This is day 7 now and I m extremely uncomfortable. What could it possibly be? And should I go to an urgent care or just try and make a regular appointment?

Thanks for contacting HCM with your concern and following is symptomwise management:

1. Since your gender is unavailable thus:
i. In females, refer to a gynecologist to rule out gynaec causes
ii. refer to an Orthopedic surgeon if no relief with routine treatment or if there is any neurological deficiency positive

2. It could either be lumbage [low back pain], sciatica or sacroiliac joint dysfunction but to exclude these an appointment with the physician is essential

3. If still uncomfortable then:
. complete bed rest
. injection voveron [diclofencac]: 2cc I.M * alternate days
. tablet voveron 50 [thrice daily] after food for 7 days
. tablet wysolone [prednisolone] 5 mg thrice daily [short course steroid]
. S.W.D. [short wave diathermy] for lumbar spine
. tablet alprax [tranquilizer in acute phase]

4. Once the acute pain subsides:
. tablet voveron SR once daily
. tablet osteocalcium twice daily
. back exercises to increase muscle tone:
- leg raising in dorsal recumbent position 10-20 times
- push ups
- swimming

5. General Instructions
- maintain straight back posture while standing or sitting
- avoid bending forwards & lifting weights
- sleep on hard mattress
- gentle massage with rubifacient ointments

6. use lumbosacral belt to support the spine and prevent bending

7. One can ask for investigation like:
- Hb%, X-ray LS spine [for osteoarthritis,osteoporosis,disc prolapse,TB spine]
