What Causes Pain In The Lower Back While Suffering From Irregular Periods?
Hi, I am a 59 year old female. I have had irregular periods for the last few years, and my last period was about 7 months ago. I have had lower right back pain for about 6 - 7 months. Xrays of my back showed nothing abnormal for my age. I was sent for physical therapy which did not help. Today I have menstrual bleeding again. Should I see my ob/gyn or internist? Thanks.
Irregular periods at your age (59 years old female) is a sign of menopause. They are often associated with lower back pain as in your case, especially days before menstrual bleeding and if the bleeding does not occur. This explains why nothing was found in your X-ray of lower back.
When there is bleeding, the pain will get eased too. Taking mephenamic acid can help reduce the pain.
I do not see anything unusual in your case. If you are worried for anything serious, you can have a routine check up with gynecologist, run PAP smear testing to rule out pathologies of your age.
If everything is ok, then, it's due to menopause. Taking menopause supplements containing isoflavanons can help ease the associated symptoms.
All the best.
