What Causes Pain In The Lower Back?

I have pain in my lower back. It will be painful all the way through the front pelvic area. Thought I had strained my back but now the pain is steady (can t position myself where it wont hurt) Could there be something going on with my kidneys? I am a 61 year old healthy male who use has an artificial knee and needs the other knee operated on but other than that very healthy.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

In my opinion, this may be due to lower back muscle or may be due to spinal problem. Although, I must check all the possible causes. So, I will give you a comprehensive diagnosis. As you mentioned, there is a problem in positioning your body which clearly states there is a problem either in muscle, bone or spine.

I would like to give some tests:
1. Complete Blood Tests including RF
2. MRI of the back
3. Kidney Function Tests
4. Hip X-Ray

I would also like to ask you:
1. Is your urination fine? Is there any pain or burning sensation during urination?
2. Any change in color or frequency or amount of urination?
3. Is there any pain when physical pressure is applied over the area of the lower back?

Meanwhile, for pain, you can take Ibuprofen when needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dipan Samanta, General & Family Physician
