What Causes Pain In The Lower Jaw After A Head Injury?

I hit my head yesterday (around left temple).I ran into a metal post which I couldn t see because my big hat obscured my vision. It hurt a lot yesterday, then went away.I m very tired today, have slept most of the day. When I woke up about an hour ago, I had severe lower jaw pain (both sides) and it is not going away. Anything to worry about? Thanks. Joan

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It looks like due to traumatic injury there has been injury to the jaw joints that is the cause of severe pain..

There can also be fracture of the lower jaw which can also be a cause of severe pain as well as restrict jaw movement..

So my suggestion is to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and a thorough clinical examination has to be done along with a Panoromic x ray that can help in evaluation of the jaw and the jaw joints..

Treatment can be done accordingly..

As of now you can take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen to relieve pain and also take a soft diet..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
