Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In The Lower Leg While Having Knee Osteoarthritis?
I have been having a lot of lower leg pain directly down the front of my leg while at rest. It seems to go away once I get up and walk. I also have experienced a lot of leg cramps (charlie horse type) while sleeping. I am n good health except for knee osteoarthritis.
This does sound like a muscular problem, and so the first thing I would check is your electrolytes, including calcium and magnesium, to make sure that these muscle spasms/cramps are not caused by a deficiency in one of these.
Other than this, there could be many causes of muscle cramps, including vascular and neurological causes, so you will need an extensive evaluation to determine the cause.
However, since electrolyte abnormalities are common, I would get those checked first.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
