Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In The Lower Right Back Radiating Towards Right Buttock?
I have a pain in my lower right back extending into the top of my right buttock. The pain is quite severe and worsens if I sit for more than a couple of minutes. I also have a numbness of the whole of my right groin area. I find it easier to walk and even run than sit or bend. Could you give me an idea what the problem might be? Thank you.
Pain in the lower back with radiation to the buttock could most likely be due to a nerve root irritation exaggerated by the sitting posture wherein the space for the nerve root can be compromised due to a disc bulge between the vertebrae of the spine or any anatomical compromise at the level of the lumbar(back)vertebra.Numbness in the groin area further suggests the same.I would recommend you meet a Doctor trained in treating spine conditions such as a Neurosurgeon/ Orthopedics specialist who would do a neurological exam and suggest certain radiological investigations like a MRI to confirm the same.Physical therapy / physiotherapy would be the initial form of treatment along with anti-inflammatory medication.
